Berlin: protests of the last generation: activists stick to cars

Activists from the Last Generation group have once again blocked streets in Berlin. Because activists also stuck to drive shafts, the fire brigade lifted the cars off the road.

With 14 road blockades, the climate group Last Generation brought traffic to a standstill again on Thursday in Berlin. According to the police, several activists stuck themselves to the street at different locations.

At the Kurfürstendamm motorway exit, several people stuck themselves to the drive shafts of two vehicles with strong adhesive, a police spokeswoman said. The police engineering unit was unable to detach the activists from the vehicles.

The fire brigade therefore helped with special vehicles and technical equipment. Because the activists had glued themselves to the drive shafts of lowered vehicles, the fire brigade had to lift the cars off the road to detach the demonstrators from the vehicles, the police spokeswoman said.

Holiday traffic deliberately delayed

The Last Generation protest actions lasted until the afternoon of Thursday. Among other things, the Frankfurter Allee, the main station and the Adenauerplatz were affected. In addition, several activists are said to have blocked the A100 and the Avus city highway. According to the climate group, the blockades were deliberately aimed at hindering holiday traffic out of the city. The last generation calls for increased political measures against climate change.
