Traffic light coalition: Greens criticize the lack of transparency in the budget

Actually, Finance Minister Christian Lindner should have presented the budget for 2024 on June 21 – but he will probably let this date pass. Criticism comes from the traffic light partner Bündnis 90/Die Grünen.

Green party leader Katharina Dröge has accused Finance Minister Christian Lindner of a lack of transparency in the federal budget. “We expect that Christian Lindner will finally live up to his responsibility for the budget process and promptly present a draft budget that can be approved,” she told the German Press Agency. The beginning of the parliamentary procedure should not be delayed.

Lindner had announced that he would not be able to present the budget for 2024 to the cabinet on June 21 as planned. The background is that the FDP politician is calling for a round of savings from the ministries in order to be able to comply with the debt brake. Today he is to answer questions from the budget committee of the Bundestag about the postponement.

Dröge emphasized that Lindner had enough opportunities to create leeway in the household without cutting funds for children, sports projects, culture or climate. “With the abolition of climate-damaging subsidies such as the company car privilege, the finance minister would have the chance to receive a double dividend: to bring climate protection and a solid budget together.”
