“This terrible act has caused great dismay beyond Schleswig-Holstein and unsettled many people – which I can understand very well,” said von der Decken. In an initiative, Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg are calling for better communication with the authorities. Specifically, it is about the exchange of information between law enforcement authorities and courts on the one hand and immigration authorities and the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees on the other. “It must be immediately recognizable or easily ascertainable for law enforcement authorities and criminal courts as to where the required information is to be addressed.” To this end, the establishment of a central nationwide entry point for notifications of criminal and fine matters against foreigners should also be examined.
