Church: Pope Francis cancels audiences because of fever

The Pope is “tired” and “feverish”: Francis has to cancel his audiences. Important dates for the Pentecost weekend are coming up in the next few days.

Pope Francis has canceled his audiences due to fever. Due to a “febrile state”, the head of the Catholic Church did not receive anyone in audience in the morning, the spokesman for the Holy See said when asked. Appointments on the weekend at Pentecost, in which the pontiff should attend, would initially remain as planned, it said.

“The Pope was tired, he had a very intense day yesterday,” Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin told journalists on Friday. Francis met many people on Thursday, he said. Parolin is head of the State Secretariat and is considered number two in the Vatican behind the Pope.

The 86-year-old Argentinian was present at the meeting of the Italian Bishops’ Conference on Thursday and met in the afternoon for a congress of the “Scholas Occurrentes” organization he founded. According to Parolin, Francis wanted to greet everyone there.

Traditional Pentecost Mass on Sunday

In the coming days there are important dates in the Holy See’s previous plans for the pontiff. On Sunday he is supposed to celebrate the traditional Pentecost mass. A meeting with the Italian President, Sergio Mattarella, is also planned for Monday.

It wasn’t until the end of March that Catholics became concerned when Pope Francis had to be hospitalized for a few days.
