The Federation Council supported Putin’s proposal to index pensions

On January 12, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy Alexander Varfolomeev supported the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin that pensions in the country should be indexed above the inflation rate.

“We naturally support this. The good news is that the promises we made to people are being fulfilled. And the president is the guarantor of their obligations, ”Varfolomeev told RT.

The senator pointed out that the Constitution reflects that the indexation of pensions should be equal to the inflation rate.

“This is an important moment when words and deeds do not diverge,” added Varfolomeev.

Earlier that day, at a meeting with members of the government, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed indexing pensions above the inflation rate – by 8.6%. The head of state noted that earlier decisions would not allow pensioners to cover costs due to inflation.

After that, Elena Bibikova, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy, indicated that the law on the indexation of pensions above the inflation rate would presumably be adopted by the end of January this year.

She also noted that the indexation is likely to be carried out retroactively from January 1. She added that after the indexation, the average pension in Russia will grow by about 1.4 thousand rubles.

On January 12, Yaroslav Nilov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs, said that the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation has funds for indexing pensions to a level slightly higher than inflation.

On December 13, it became known that the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Russia is preparing new proposals for the indexation of pensions in 2022. It was noted that taking into account the indexation of pensions already carried out in January 2021 in the amount of 6.3% and a lump sum payment, the size of these pensions increased by 11.1%, which exceeded the current inflation in 2021.

On November 20, it was announced that the new rules for the payment of pensions came into force on January 1, 2022. According to the innovations, the payment and delivery of pensions in the territory with the introduced emergency regime can be earlier. In addition, Russians will now be able to choose how to receive payments: through the post office or another organization.
