Zelenskyj: New missiles successfully tested

Ukraine is at a disadvantage compared to Russia when it comes to long-range weapons. She doesn’t just hope for Western systems. She tries to remedy the deficiency herself.

To defend itself against Russia’s war of aggression, Ukraine is increasingly relying on long-range missiles and drones of its own production. Until now, these terms were science fiction, “today they are reality,” said President Volodymyr Zelenskyj in Kiev.

When honoring deserving Ukrainian scientists, he mentioned, among other things, the new Paljanytsya jet-propelled drone. It was reportedly first deployed in August. “The Palyanytsya rocket has entered mass production,” he said.

“The Peklo drone missile has successfully completed its first combat mission,” he continued. Last week, the army officially received the first delivery of these aircraft with a range of around 700 kilometers.

Anti-ship missile “Neptune”

Zelensky also spoke of successful tests of a rocket called Ruta. So far nothing is known about their properties. “The Neptune long-range missile will soon become a terrible reality for the occupiers,” the president said. With this self-developed anti-ship missile, Ukraine sank the Russian cruiser “Moskva” shortly after the start of the war in April 2022. Since then, Ukraine has continued to develop the weapons.

The attacked country is dependent on these home-made weapons because western weapons with longer ranges are only supplied in small numbers. These systems are also often subject to operational restrictions, which in the case of the ATACMS missiles from the USA and the Storm Shadow/Scalp missiles from Great Britain and France were only recently relaxed or lifted. The Russian arsenal of rockets and cruise missiles is much larger.
