His Hitler salute-like gesture during a speech at Trump’s inauguration drew a lot of criticism. Now Musk is talking about an old scam. Publicist Michel Friedman speaks of a “disgrace”.
US tech billionaire Elon Musk has spoken out about allegations that he made a gesture similar to the Hitler salute at an event marking the inauguration of President Donald Trump. “Honestly, they need better dirty tricks,” he wrote on his online platform X. The comparison with Hitler was a tired ploy, he added to his critics.
Michel Friedman speaks of “shame”
The publicist Michel Friedman criticized the gesture in an interview with the Berlin “Tagesspiegel”. As he watched the inauguration, he thought: “Shame! The breaking of taboos is reaching a point that is dangerous for the entire free world.” Friedman appealed to Musk to show political responsibility: “Was the hand gesture an expression of this political identity? That wouldn’t be really surprising. Elon Musk posts and has a lot of anti-Semitic tweets posted on X.”
Musk spoke as a speaker in Washington
Trump adviser Musk was one of the speakers on stage before the president’s arrival at Washington’s Capital One Arena on Monday. He thanked the new president’s supporters, then held his right hand to his heart – and stretched it upward in a quick movement. He then repeated the gesture again in a different direction. “My heart goes out to you,” he said afterwards.
Many users on Platform X noted that the gesture was reminiscent of a Hitler salute. The news channel CNN repeated the scene several times in its program. The viewers themselves are smart enough to form their own opinions, said a presenter.
During his appearance, Musk said that Trump’s election had “secured the future of civilization.” All of humanity was at a fork in the road. Musk had previously raved about the “return of the king” on the day of Trump’s swearing-in.
