The Greens build their consent to the financial package of SPD and Union on conditions. According to the Greens, Friedrich Merz ‘communication does not help with the negotiations.
The Greens build their consent to the financial package agreed by the Union and the SPD to strengthen defense and infrastructure in terms of conditions. “We don’t get anything here,” said the Greens-Ko faction leader in the Bundestag, Katharina Dröge, on Tuesday evening in the ARD. She sees “already movement” with a view to demands of the Greens. If there are questions of climate protection, this must be “better”.
Union and the SPD had previously agreed in their exploratory talks for a new government to exclude defense spending above one percent of the gross domestic product from the debt brake. In addition, a special fund of 500 billion euros was agreed to finance over ten years of investing in the infrastructure in the federal, state and municipalities.
Dröge welcomed that the debt brake is now adapted to defense spending and that a “permanent possibility of debt” would be created. However, she wondered why this did not happen with the necessary investments for infrastructure.
Katharina Dröge recommends Friedrich Merz Direct conversation with Left Party
“Of course we will have to talk and negotiate with each other,” said Dröge, referring to the necessary two-thirds majority in the Bundestag, which are necessary for the decisions of the desired black and red government. “We will have to look at these suggestions.”
She would have liked the expected future Chancellor Merz to talk to the Greens in advance, said Dröge. She also wondered why the decision should still be made in the outgoing Bundestag. The recommendation of the Greens is to speak directly to the Left Party, the consent of which would be necessary for a two -thirds majority in the new parliament. Merz really talking to anyone, said Dröge. “Style is not always his strength.”
