Weapons and soldiers alone cannot protect Europe, says Christian Mölling. In the event of a conflict, the civilians are also important. They should know what to do.
Europe upgrades to defend itself as independently of the NATO partner USA. Security expert Christian Mölling fears that this could encourage Wladimir Putin to start a second war beyond Ukraine sooner than later. Moscow could now take advantage of the situation where Europe is not yet as defensive as in a few years.
Such a second attack would currently be associated with great difficulties for Russia. But: “Moscow should not be underestimated,” says Mölling in the new edition of the star– s “Die Lage -International”.
“You can’t get defense on soldiers”
It is all the more urgent for Europe’s governments to prepare themselves. In addition to the procurement of necessary weapon systems for land war, air defense and far -reaching counter -striking capacity, Europe has to quickly develop a plan for a common defense and create new military structures that indicate important countries outside the EU such as Norway and Turkey. In addition, a new quality of the population is needed. “You can’t get defense on soldiers,” says Mölling, who heads the “Future of Europe” project by the Bertelsmann Foundation.
In view of increasing sabotage campaigns in Germany and suspicious drone inserts in German airspace, it is important that people understand: “This can serve to prepare a war in Europe in the long term.”After the Russian invasion in Ukraine, Sweden’s government informed his own citizens by post -throwing about her role in the event of war.
The security expert also wants a similar speech from the new federal government. Ultimately, the question is: “Do we make preparations to keep this state alive?” To do this, “everyone and everyone must roll up their sleeves”.
