A German Major General will be recalled after a sexist comment. The incident draws far -reaching consequences – Defense Minister Pistorius intervenes.
A German two -star general has been removed from his post after a rough and sexist saying. A disciplinary procedure was initiated against the Major Hartmut Renk, Vice Ecise Mandeur of the NATO command to coordinate Ukraine Hilfe in Wiesbaden, as reported by the magazine. He was also transferred to another post.
According to the magazine, the reason for the measures is a questionable statement in a team meeting and the complaint of a British officer. Renk is said to have said in front of the military from various NATO countries: “If Rape is Inevitabe, Relax and Enjoy.” Translated: “If rape is unavoidable, relax and enjoy it.” The British officer present then reported the general.
Sexist saying: General Hartmut Renk loses posts at NATO
According to “Spiegel”, the case was classified as extremely delicate. Both the general inspector of the Bundeswehr, Carsten Breuer and Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) were involved.
Renk confirmed his statement. His saying was meant sarcastic and ironically that he wanted to motivate the team with it, the magazine continued.
The disciplinary measure has far -reaching consequences for Renk, the report says. He was actually intended for another NATO post, which he does not get now. The “Spiegel” also reported his position at the Ukraine command in Wiesbaden officially on May 1st. However, he will remain until his successor has been familiarized. In autumn it is then to be put into interim retirement.
Renk has already been the second German general, which has recently been reclined by an important NATO post. At the end of last year, the security department of the defense alliance discovered that a general, contrary to the applicable regulations, had taken home secret documents. The Ministry of Defense then immediately dismissed him.
