The shooter fired out of his pistol 21 times. The killing of the Israeli embassy employees causes horror. The public prosecutor calls charges – and a possible maximum sentence.
The alleged shooter, who shot two employees of the Israeli embassy, is based on a document of the indictment with the support of the Palestinians in the Middle East. After the fatal shots in front of the Jewish Museum in the US capital Washington, the alleged perpetrator Elias R. told a police officer: “I did it for Palestine, I did it for Gaza (…).” When the police led him, he called: “Free Palestine” (German: “Freed Palestine”). This emerged from an affidavit of the investigating FBI agent.
Video recordings of surveillance cameras show how the alleged perpetrator fired several shots on the two victims, as the public prosecutor said. After the two were sagged to the ground, he continued to fir from the near proximity – also when one of the victims tried to drag away. “Investigators have secured a pistol of the caliber 9 millimeters and 21 used cartridges at the scene.”
Prosecutor’s office expects other charges
After his arrest, it was said that the suspect had chanted a propalestinian slogan. The alleged perpetrator is now charged with murder. The crime is also examined as a hate crime and as a possible act of terrorism, which is why there are more accusations, said the incumbent prosecutor for the US capital, Jeanine Pirro.
The public prosecutor accuses the alleged perpetrator of Elias R. for the killing of German-Israelis Yaron Lischinsky Murder of a foreign representative. In addition, because of the fatal shots on Lischinsky and his partner Sarah Milgrim Murder, he is accused of first degree in two cases. He also has to answer for violations of weapons laws.
The result could be the result
Pirro said the investigation was still at the beginning, but it was crimes that could be punished in the event of a conviction with the death penalty. The judge set a hearing in this case for June 18.
According to the authorities, the alleged perpetrator Elias R. comes from Chicago and only came to Washington on the day before the crime. His pistol, which he bought in his home state in Illinois in 2020, had been properly registered and checked in for his flight. In the first hours after the crime, the authorities described him as a 30-year-old, but according to the indictment he is 31 years old.
The fatal attack has triggered great horror in the United States, in Israel and worldwide. According to the Israeli ambassador in Washington, the young man and the young woman were a couple that were about to engagement.
Federal Police FBI speaks of terrorism
The head of the US federal police FBI, Kash Patel, rated the fatal attack in a post on platform X as a terrorist act. He wrote: “The terrorist act of last night has the full attention of the FBI.” He emphasized that “targeted anti -Semitic violence” was an attack on the basic values of the country and was strictly punished.
Washington’s act was done against the background of the war between Israel and Islamist Hamas in the Gaza Strip. This started in October 2023 with a devastating Hamas terrorist attack on Israel. Israel is now criticized internationally internationally because of its military approach and the terrible humanitarian situation in the largely devastated and cleared -out coastal strip.
