Foreign Minister Johann WadePhul received his Israeli counterpart Gideon Saar in Berlin. There he didn’t save with criticism. But WadePhul was ashamed of one point.
Federal Foreign Minister Johann WadePhul (CDU) has accused the Israeli government of a break in international law because of its settlement policy. The approval of further Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank is “in this form in violation of international law, it literally installs the solution to a two -state solution,” said Wadephul after a meeting with his Israeli colleague Gideon Saar on Thursday in Berlin. He also called for an improvement in the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. Saar defended the Israeli army against allegations and criticized the strengthening of anti -Semitism in Germany.
The “extremely tense situation in the West Bank” worries him, said WadePhul. The Federal Foreign Minister warned that individual government members also call for the annexation of the area.
With a view of the Gaza Strip, WadePhul Israel asked to have more humanitarian aid in the coastal strips. He is “worried about the people in Gaza who do not know how to get food and medication,” said WadePhul – “people who walk long distances to achieve help for help and come back empty – in the worst case they do not come back because they were killed.”
Aid organizations now have to be “quickly and nationwide” the use in the Gaza Strip, said WadePhul. “This is not only a requirement of humanity, it is also valid international law,” he added. With all the sincerity of the support for Israel, Germany has the obligation to observe compliance with these principles, said WadePhul. “Germany has an obligation to ensure the security and existence of the state of Israel and Germany is also obliged to law,” he said.
Israel’s Foreign Minister rejects WadePhul’s allegations
Israel’s Foreign Minister Saar rejected Israel’s responsibility for the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. “Only Hamas is responsible for suffering on both sides,” he said. Israel will continue to meet his obligations and adhere to international law. At the same time, a country in the war before international law is not obliged to “finance the war machine or the economy of the enemy,” said Saar. However, the aid deliveries in the Gaza Strip under the care of the UN and international aid organizations were a way for the radical Islamic Hamas to finance themselves.
According to Saar, the new system with the Foundation GHF supported by the USA in turn means “that Hamas cannot benefit from it.” Israel please give Germany to give these efforts a chance. “These efforts have the potential to free the Palestinian population from Hamas’s yoke.”
The Israeli Foreign Minister thanked Germany for his support and pushed for its continued existence. “We need Germany’s support.” Israel is exposed to “military, legal, diplomatic and economic attacks”. However, the Israeli government knew “that Germany will stay by our side on an international stage,” said Saar.
Wade phulic because of growing anti -Semitism ashamed
Before the joint press conference in the Federal Foreign Office, Saar and WadePhul had visited the Holocaust memorial in Berlin and laid down a wreath there. Saar criticized the strengthening of anti -Semitism in Germany. “With a heavy heart, I say today that the teachings (from history) were apparently forgotten again,” said Saar. He particularly criticized the pro-Palestine movement in Germany, which he classified as anti-Semitic. “They want to deliver the Jewish state to the jihadist psychopaths that surround us.”
WadePhul was ashamed of the strong increase in anti -Semitic incidents in Germany. “The fact that Jews say, I no longer feel sure in Germany that they exhort their children not to speak Hebrew on the street – that deeply ashamed me,” he said.
On the occasion of the visit of the Israeli Foreign Minister, there were protests against Israel’s action in the Gaza Strip in front of the Federal Foreign Office. Under the motto “Red Line Legal Law”, human rights groups and non -governmental organizations had called for a rally. The demonstrators accused the Israeli government of war crimes in the Gaza Strip and called for an immediate stop of German arms deliveries to Israel. “The federal government has to prevent further war crimes from passing there,” said the general secretary of Amnesty International Germany, Julia Duchrow.
Israel is under pressure to end the Gaza War, which had been triggered by the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023 by the Hamas attack. Israel is accused of wanting to starve the population in the Palestinian area through a blockade of auxiliary deliveries.
