Sprint favorite from Jamaica fails in the run-up because she wanted to be too cool

Shericka Jackson was one of the big favorites over the 200 meters. But the Jamaican sprinter, who has already won bronze in the 100 meters, underwent an incredible carelessness in the run-up.

Shericka Jackson is already one of the medalists at the Tokyo Olympics. The sprinter won bronze over the 100 meters and thus made the success of the Jamaicans perfect – all three medals in the supreme discipline, as is well known, went to athletes of the sprint superpower. But unfortunately another event will presumably dominate the memory of Jackson: her embarrassing end in the run-up to the 200 meters.

Jackson was one of the big favorites and was solidly in second place in the run-up when she slowed down a few meters from the finish line. Apparently she felt too safe. She was overtaken by two competitors at the last moment and only ended up in fourth place – too little to make it to the semi-finals. Her compatriots Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and 2016 Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah made it through without any problems and are now in the final. Thompson-Herah already has the 100th in Tokyo Meter won.

The horror was great

Then the horror of the athlete was great. She later spoke up on her Instagram channel and wrote, “Sometimes things teach us painful experiences that we didn’t think we needed to know.”

“She obviously misjudged herself and paid the price for it. I expected her to do better. She will learn from it,” said trainer Stephen Francis in the Jamaican newspaper “The Cleaner”, pointing out that Jackson was on in this discipline He does not expect that the unforeseen failure in the 200 meters will affect their further performance. Jackson belongs to the 4×100 meter relay and has the next chance to win a medal there.

The two German sprinters both missed the final of the 200 meters. Lisa Marie Kwayie made it to the semi-finals, but failed there in eighth place. Before that, Jessica-Bianca Wessolly was eliminated in the run-up.
