Former Brazilian international Paulinho is aiming for a return to FC Barcelona. It shouldn’t fail because of the money.
Former Brazilian international Paulinho got himself talking to his ex-club FC Barcelona. The now 32-year-old said he would forego money for this. “Money or the length of the contract would not be a problem, and certainly not if Barca called,” Paulinho told the Spanish newspaper Sports world.
Paulinho had played for Guangzhou FC (formerly: Guangzhou Evergrande) in China in the past few years with interruptions since 2015. In 2017, the midfielder moved to FC Barcelona for the first time for 40 million euros, before leaving the club for Guangzhou a year later. Prior to his time in China, Paulinho also worked for Tottenham Hotspur from 2013 to 2015.
Paulinho: Money was never the most important thing for me
In his first phase in Catalonia, Paulinho made 49 appearances for Blaugrana. If Paulinho has its way, there will be a few more. That Barca are struggling with high debts is not a problem. “Money has never been the most important thing in my career so coming back would not be a problem and the club wouldn’t have to pay a transfer fee for me,” he said.
Because a few days ago Paulinho announced his departure from China and justified this mainly with the corona pandemic. “Today one of the most important cycles of my career came to an end,” he wrote Instagram: “It was unbelievable years, both professionally and personally, that I will remember very fondly. The pandemic has profoundly changed the dynamics of the world and in my case unfortunately means that I have to say goodbye to the club prematurely.”
