Daniel Huber from Salzburg returns to the Ski Jumping World Cup in Willingen this weekend. The 30-year-old underwent surgery in Wisla after the start of the season at the beginning of November for a cartilage chip in his right knee. Huber was last convincing in training jumps.

Sara Marita Kramer, on the other hand, is not yet ready to return, she is also missing in Willingen. For the World Cup 2022/23 and the World Championships in Planica, Daniela Iraschko-Stolz is not an issue at all.

The 37-year-old has to undergo another outpatient procedure on Friday by ÖSV team doctor Jürgen Barthofer on his right knee, which has been injured since last season. That requires at least six more weeks of rest. At the end of December, ÖSV head coach Harald Rodlauer was convinced that the native of Styria would return to the World Cup before the World Championships. However, a career end for the Tyrolean by choice is not an issue, as stated in an ÖSV broadcast on Wednesday.

First steps as a trainer

Iraschko-Stolz, who has been training as a trainer for a long time, will occasionally work in Rodlauer’s support team and support Kramer, among other things. “In this way I stay close to the sport and maybe even gain new insights for myself and my future career,” said Iraschko-Stolz. “Of course I see the whole thing from the perspective of the still active athlete. The ÖSV managers trust me and maybe I can help Sara a little here and there.” She believes that she could ski jump better than ever before without knee problems.

Kramer is probably also pursuing this goal. The 15-time World Cup winner was somewhat close to her 16th World Cup victory and thus the setting of the ÖSV record of Iraschko-Stolz as second at the season opener in Wisla.

After the trip to Japan, the 21-year-old was taken out of the World Cup in mid-January for a special program. It is likely that the World Cup title defender will not return to the World Cup before the World Championships. “Sara will continue to prepare very individually for future tasks with our team of supervisors.”

Haybock is celebrating a comeback

While the Willingen squad of the ÖSV women with the World Cup leader Eva Pinkelnig, the up-and-coming Chiara Kreuzer as well as Jacqueline Seifriedsberger and Hannah Wiegele is only four people, the red-white-red men will have a septet as usual.

Michael Hayböck, Daniel Tschofenig and Clemens Aigner are back after missing the Kulm ski flying because of flu infections. Then there are Stefan Kraft, Manuel Fettner and Jan Hörl as well as Huber. It is also fixed that Huber will not take part in the World Cup in Lake Placid next week.

“Of course we have to dose his comeback in the middle of the season,” explained ÖSV head coach Andreas Widholzl. The team Olympic champion himself was optimistic: “I’m very confident that now is the right moment to get back on board.” The almost three-month break was not an easy time for him. “I was even hoping that I’d be back a little sooner. But what’s important is what comes next.” In Willingen there is a mixed competition on Friday and two individual competitions each for women and men at the weekend.
