The Ski World Championships in Courchevel and Méribel are history, the 48th from February 4th to 16th, 2025 in Saalbach-Hinterglemm is casting its shadow. “We experienced a great event with fantastic weather, the spark has already jumped over. We will do everything we can to make these title fights a real celebration, which will also get young people enthusiastic about this wonderful sport”emphasized ÖSV President Roswitha Stadlober, who accepted the FIS flag on the final day in Courchevel together with Mayor Alois Hasenauer, Peter Mitterer from the Bergbahnen Hinterglemm and Skiclub boss Bartl Gensbichler.
The preparations for the second World Championships in Saalbach after the one in 1991 – at that time Stephan Eberharter (Super-G, combination), Petra Kronberger (downhill), Ulrike Maier (Super-G) and Rudi Nierlich (giant slalom) won five gold medals for the red and white -red team out – run at full speed. The concept in “Home of casual” (this is how Saalbach-Hinterglemm beats the advertising drum) is “One mountain – all competitions”. All races take place on the Zwölferkogel, it will be a world championship of short distances with only one finish stadium for around 15,000 visitors.
Dress rehearsal in March 2024
An event with eleven competitions is planned, in Courchevel and Méribel there were 13. The individual parallel races are likely to be canceled, the classic team competition could be replaced by a team combination with the best speed and technique aces. The program should be finalized by April at the latest.
The dress rehearsal for the big event will start next year. From March 20th to 24th, 2024, the Salzburg ski resort will be the scene of the World Cup finals. “We are very motivated, everyone involved should already feel that World Cup feeling”said Hasenauer.
“There will be a sensational women’s downhill run”reveals Gensbichler, from which pure optimism speaks: “We have lent the weather on request from Courchevel and Méribel only. I can already promise that it will be wonderful here too.”
