Prospecting for gold in Tashkent: Polleres won her first Grand Slam tournament

In the final, 25-year-old Polleres won the golden score against double world champion Barbara Matic. The silver medalist at the 2021 Summer Olympics collected 1000 world ranking points. “I’m extremely happy about my first victory at Grand Slam level, I’ve been waiting for it for a long time,” said Polleres. “Winning the Masters gives you confidence. When you win the second most important tournament of the year, that’s something to be proud of.”

Silver for Shamil Borchashvili

There was silver for Shamil Borchashvili from LZ Multikraft Wels in the category up to 81 kg, his brother and club colleague Wachid Borchashvili finished fifth in the same class. Shamil Borchashvili had to bow to Hungary’s Attila Ungvari in the golden score in the final. Aaron Fara also came second, who lost in the category up to 100 kilograms after four quick Ippon victories only at the showdown against three-time European champion Varlam Liparteliani from Georgia.
