The five-time Olympic champion and his brother Tarjei tested positive for the corona virus on both Saturday and Sunday, the Norwegian federation confirmed. After consultation with the coaching and medical team, it was decided that both would return to their homeland and miss the start of the penultimate World Cup on Thursday in Östersund, Sweden.
The Bö brothers announced on Saturday after their second double victory at the World Cup in Nove Mesto that they had started despite a positive test. The 29-year-old Johannes Thingnes Böder had won the pursuit and the day before the sprint in front of Tarjei and with it equaled his record of 16 wins of the season.
“They will be back on skis on Sunday at the earliest,” said Norway team manager Per Arne Botnan. Then there will be a mass start in Sweden. The season finale takes place in Oslo from March 16th to 19th, where three individual races are on the program.
