The 26-year-old from Upper Austria won the overall European Cup in the 2020/2021 season and celebrated his World Cup debut in Saalbach-Hinterglemm in March 2021.

Shortly before the start of the 2021/2022 season, Lahnsteiner injured his knee badly and had to take a break for the entire winter. “When I made my comeback at the beginning of this season, I noticed very clearly that I was no longer physically and, above all, mentally ready,” said the Ebensee resident. In addition to the overall European Cup victory, he also won the bronze medal at the 2016 Junior World Championships in giant slalom in Sochi (RUS).

“After many years in competitive sports, I will end my active career today. The last few years have been difficult due to a number of injuries and my love of skiing has been put to the test”.

The racing director of the Alpine men, Marko Pfeifer, regrets the resignation: “It’s a shame that Max is ending his career at a young age. Our team will miss him, but I wish him all the best for his professional future.”
