Herrmann-Wick has achieved her goals in biathlon. Family planning is now a priority. The German FA hopes she returns in some form.
The German Ski Association wishes that biathlon Olympic champion Denise Herrmann-Wick will stay with the DSV after her career ends.
“Our team leader says goodbye with her. But of course we hope that she will continue to support the DSV and our young athletes in some way as an adviser in the years to come,” said sports director Felix Bitterling.
Herrmann-Wick will end her sporting career at the season finale at Holmenkollen in Oslo on Sunday. “There are areas of interest that I would like to deepen. I’m looking forward to the adventures that life has in store for me now and that I can now approach some things a little more spontaneously and flexibly,” said the 34-year-old in a statement from the association. In the coming weeks and months she wants to take time for family, friends and building a house with her husband Thomas Wick. The two-time world champion wants to start a family with him.
Röiseland also announced his resignation
In addition to the individual Olympic champion in Beijing, Norway’s record world champion Marte Olsbu Röiseland (32) also announced her retirement at the end of the season on Tuesday. The German women’s team had previously lost former relay world champion Vanessa Hinz (30), who resigned earlier this year.
Many companions and other top athletes wished Herrmann-Wick all the best and congratulated her on Instagram on her successful career. “I wish you all the best, as already discussed, you can’t get rid of me and I expect the highest level of discipline and the fulfillment of your military duties by Sunday or Monday,” joked Benedikt Doll, who will be hanging on for another season. Marte Olsbu Röiseland commented on the resignation announcement with three hearts, whose teammate Tarjei Bö wrote: “Another queen to retire.”
