SV Guntamatic Ried wants to set the next example in the fight against relegation at the end of the basic round of the Bundesliga. After the 2:1 in Altach and the leap away from the bottom of the table, on Sunday (5 p.m.) against WAC at home there should finally be celebrations again.
The “Vikings” had been without a win for eight laps before the trip to the Ländle, so the drive home should have been all the nicer. The omens, at least not starting last and thus not in a relegation zone in the qualifying group, seem more than good, as Altach is away to Salzburg on Sunday.
With a win followed by a division of points, Ried could go into the final phase of the season two points ahead of Vorarlberg – and at the same time catch up with the WAC. The Carinthian sees Maximilian Senft beaten below their value in the course of the season. “A very strong team is coming to Ried. We have to be fully convinced of our own idea,” said Ried’s coach.
It’s about “bringing a lot of emotion onto the pitch so that we can play this game intensively until the end”. Up to 4,500 spectators are expected in the josko-Arena and are hoping for the Innviertel team’s first home win since mid-October.
“We know that we still have room for improvement in some areas,” said Senft, who is allowed to continue working on his idea during the international break. This also applies to Manfred Schmid, who has been at the helm in Wolfsberg for less than two weeks. The Viennese was not granted a good start in the previous week. After a red card against Simon Piesinger, WAC lost 1-0 to Lustenau outnumbered.
