Conmebol will pay prizes for matches won in the Cup groups

The conmebol announced this Friday that it will distribute for the first time prizes for games won in the group stage of the Libertadores Cups and South American 2023 that will start in April.

“The prizes per match won will generate more competitive matches and more attractive tournaments”expressed its headline Alejandro Dominguez.

The prize for each match won in the group stage of the Libertadores, the main club tournament on the continent, will be $300,000, while in the South American the amount amounts to $100,000, the institution detailed.

The South American soccer parent will distribute around $301,000,000 across its club tournaments in total, which means an increase of $57,000,000 compared to the 2022 version (+21%).

The champion of the Libertadores will receive 18 million dollars and the one of the South American will receive 5 million dollars.

For the group stage of the Libertadores that will begin in April, the amount amounts to three million dollars per club (six games) plus a plus of 300,000 “for sporting merit” per match won.

For the round of 16, the prizes amount to $1,250,000; quarterfinals $1,700,000; semifinal 2,300,000; runner-up 7,000,000 and champion 18,000,000 dollars, in total 207,800,000 dollars.

Meanwhile, the Copa Sudamericana distributes $900,000 in the group stage plus a plus of $100,000 as sporting merit for each game won.

The group stage draw for the Copa Libertadores-2023 is scheduled for March 27 at the Conmebol headquarters in Luque, located on the outskirts of the Paraguayan capital.
