Hockey: NHL: Grubauer stays close to Draisaitl’s Oilers with Seattle

After five wins in a row, Leon Draisaitl concedes another defeat in the NHL with Edmonton. This shortens Seattle’s gap to the Oilers with Philipp Grubauer.

German ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl was beaten by the Vegas Golden Knights despite a goal and an assist with the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL.

The Oilers lost their home game 3-4 (1-2, 1-0, 1-1) after overtime and conceded their first defeat after five victories. Draisaitl prepared the 1:1 equalizer in the first third and equalized in the second round in a majority game to make it 2:2. Edmonton also caught up from a deficit in the third period, two and a half minutes after the start of overtime the Oilers conceded the 3-4.

The Oilers remain third in the Pacific Division and a playoff spot, but their lead over the Seattle Kraken has shrunk to three points. German goalkeeper Philipp Grubauer scored a 7-2 (2-0, 1-1, 4-1) thrashing of the Nashville Predators with Seattle.

Kraken team record

Seattle allowed just one shot on Grubauer’s goal in the early part, setting a team record. “That’s the third you want to win. It was a damn good away game from us,” said Grubauer about the 2-0 lead after the first round. The goalkeeper parried 14 of the total of only 16 shots on his goal.

Tim Stützle has little chance of making the playoffs with the Ottawa Senators. Despite two assists from the 21-year-old German, the senators were beaten by the New Jersey Devils 3:5 (1:1, 2:2, 0:2). Lukas Reichel scored his fourth goal in the NHL, but the native of Nuremberg lost 3-1 (0-0, 0-1, 1-2) with the Chicago Blackhawks against the Minnesota Wild.

Even for Nico Sturm it was not enough to win despite a goal, with 3: 5 (1: 2, 2: 1, 0: 2) his San Jose Sharks lost at the Calgary Flames. JJ Peterka and the Buffalo Sabers scored a 2-0 (0-0, 0-0, 2-0) win over the New York Islanders, while Moritz Seider and the Detroit Red Wings lost to the Philadelphia Flyers 0-3 (0 :0, 0:2, 0:1).
