The seven-time English world champion of Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton, expressed his satisfaction with the fine imposed by the Brazilian court on former Brazilian driver Nelson Piquet for racist comments against him.
Piquet, three-time F1 world champion in 1981, 1983 and 1987, was sentenced last week to pay $945,000 by a court in Brasilia for having called “black boy (little black, Ndr)“ to hamilton during an interview he offered in 2021.
The Brasilia court considered these comments “intolerable”, which constituted a “serious offense to the fundamental values of society”, for which it sentenced piquet, 70 years old, to a fine for “collective moral damage”, whose money would go to associations that fight against discrimination.
