BBL: Frankfurt basketball players are relegated from the Bundesliga

A prominent name leaves the Basketball Bundesliga. Ex-master Frankfurt descends. Another club can celebrate staying in the class.

The Fraport Skyliners from Frankfurt are relegated from the Basketball Bundesliga.

The German champion of 2004 won on the last day of the main round at BG Göttingen with 88:82 (38:47), but still has to go into the second division. The Central German BC won in the parallel game against the Hakro Merlins Crailsheim with 79:69 (34:39) and thus remains first class.

Chemnitz books playoff ticket

Medi Bayreuth was already the first to be relegated. The last place in the playoffs was secured by the Chemnitz 99ers, who won the decisive duel at the MLP Academics Heidelberg with 81:74 (36:40) and now meet the Telekom Baskets Bonn.

In the first knockout round from next weekend there will also be duels between Alba Berlin and ratiopharm Ulm, Bayern Munich and BG Göttingen as well as EWE Baskets Oldenburg and the MHP giants Ludwigsburg. Three wins are necessary to advance to the semi-finals.

reaction came too late

The Skyliners fought against relegation in Göttingen until the end. Overall, the Hessians’ race to catch up under interim coach Klaus Perwas came too late. “We have seen a positive development in the past few weeks. You can ask yourself whether the impulse came too late,” Skyliners manager Marco Völler said before the game to the German Press Agency. Perwas succeeded Geert Hammink in March.

The defeat against Crailsheim on Friday evening was also fatal for the Skyliners, when they gave up a clear lead. At MBC, however, the change of coach to Ingo Freyer paid off.
