Bundesliga: Toppmöller possible coach candidate in Frankfurt

Oliver Glasner is still there – and yet other coaches are already being traded in Frankfurt. Board spokesman Hellmann feeds additional speculation with his statements.

According to a report by “Bild”, Dino Toppmöller is a candidate for the post of coach at Eintracht Frankfurt. The former assistant coach of FC Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig could therefore follow the current head coach Oliver Glasner.

Glasner has a contract with the Europa League winner until the summer of 2024. However, after recent failures and an angry speech by Glasner in Sinsheim, an early end to the collaboration this summer is becoming more and more likely.

The club and Toppmöller’s advisors did not comment on the rumors when asked by dpa. Toppmüller played as a professional for Eintracht, his father Klaus coached the Hessians. As Julian Nagelsmann’s assistant, the 42-year-old even represented his boss in several games with the record champions from Munich when he was out.

Ten games without a win in a row

Board spokesman Axel Hellmann had publicly doubted further cooperation with Glasner for the first time. “We have to deal with the question of whether we are in a form that is forward-looking. We should let the next few days and weeks go into the country on this question,” said Hellmann on the TV channel Bild. The 1: 3 at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim was the tenth game in the Bundesliga without a win in a row. Glasner saw the red card during the game and then lost his nerve at the press conference. Official Hellmann reprimanded the coach for his angry speech.

“I honestly can’t see much that’s positive about it,” Hellmann commented. Eintracht made the coach an offer for a contract extension in the spring. “A lot depends on how Oliver Glasner positions himself. It’s a debate that we didn’t start as a club. It arose because our offer wasn’t accepted,” Hellmann clarified. Before Toppmöller, Matthias Jaissle – currently coach at Red Bull Salzburg – was also traded as a future Eintracht coach.
