Ice Hockey World Championship: DEB team sees itself on the right track despite defeats

Ice Hockey World Championship: DEB team sees itself on the right track despite defeats

Germany’s national ice hockey team also showed a respectable performance against top favorite Finland. At one point, however, it was not enough. The pressure is growing.

Despite the two opening defeats at the Ice Hockey World Championships, the German national players see many positive starting points for the upcoming preliminary round games.

“I think we can go out here with a lot of confidence,” said NHL defender Moritz Seider after the unfortunate 3-4 draw against hosts and defending champions Finland. On Friday at the start of the World Cup, Germany also had an unfortunate 1-0 loss to eleven-time world champions Sweden and, despite two good performances, is now without a point before the third game on Monday (3:20 p.m. / Sport1 and MagentaSport) against the USA.

“It could have been two points, it could have been six. Now it’s zero. We knew that we could get into a situation like this. I think we should take the positive with us. That we played really good hockey twice. We have to keep playing like this,” said captain Moritz Müller. “We can go out with a lot of momentum, just keep accelerating. I think that will make us look forward to more here,” said Seider on the performance of the Germans so far, who are competing in Finland without 15 injured top performers.

Should Germany also lose against the USA on Monday, the team of the new national coach Harold Kreis would be under a lot of pressure in the following games against Denmark, Austria, Hungary and France in order to still be able to reach the minimum goal of the quarter-finals. “There is always pressure at a World Cup. Even if we had won today, we would have to beat the others to progress,” said Müller. “We will spend the day tomorrow as a team and then attack again.”
