The day’s win went to the Danish breakaway king Magnus Cort Nielsen, who prevailed in the sprint of a three-man group in front of the Canadian Derek Gee and the Italian Alessandro de Marchi. The German sprinter Pascal Ackermann finished fifth.
Former Tour de France champion Geraint Thomas successfully defended the overall lead. The Welshman had taken the top spot after world champion Remco Evenepoel of Belgium dropped out due to a positive corona test ahead of the rest day. Kämna is 1:52 minutes behind Thomas.
Wlasow has to give up in sixth place
Wlasow had to give up on the German Bora-hansgrohe team. The Russian had problems right from the start and couldn’t keep up with the pace in the field. After about 70 of the 196 kilometers to be completed, Bora announced that the Russian had given up the race. At this point, Vlasov was sixth overall, just over a minute behind Thomas.
On Wednesday, the Giro continues with the eleventh stage over 219 kilometers from Camaiore to Tortona. Two mountain classifications in the third category and one in the fourth category have to be mastered on the undulating terrain.
