BBL: Munich and Ludwigsburg convince at the start of the playoffs

Title contenders FC Bayern put in an impressive performance at the start of the basketball playoffs. Ludwigsburg surprises in Oldenburg.

FC Bayern Munich and MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg have made a successful start to the playoffs in the Bundesliga. In the first of five possible quarter-finals, Munich defeated BG Göttingen 87:67 (44:36).

Ludwigsburg won 90-80 (56-45) at EWE Baskets Oldenburg. The second two games will take place again on Thursday in Munich and Oldenburg.

Title aspirant Bayern Munich was much more concentrated against Göttingen in front of the Munich soccer professionals Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies after three league defeats in a row. The hosts extended the eight-point lead at the break to 66:50 by the end of the third quarter and confidently won their first win in this year’s playoffs. Nick Weiler-Babb scored 15 points for Bayern. The only concern for Munich is an injury to Andreas Obst.

Ludwigsburg convinces in Oldenburg

In Oldenburg, Ludwigsburg dominated in the first two quarters, mainly thanks to a strong rate from distance. Eleven attempts from beyond the three-point line were successful before the break. Since Yorman Polas Bartolo was also on target, coach Josh King’s team was leading 56:45 after 20 minutes.

Oldenburg was able to shorten the lead to 68:71 in the third quarter thanks to DeWayne Russell, who was voted the best offensive player in the league. The American was also unstoppable in the final round, the Baskets led 75:74 (35th). The Ludwigsburg three-man shooters turned the game around again: Polas Bartolo and Will Cherry scored to make it 82:75 (37th). The guests couldn’t take the lead anymore. Russell was the best thrower for the baskets with 31 points, Polas Bartolo scored 24 points for the guests.
