Because Westwien’s home arena in Maria Enzersdorf is not free on Saturday, the first game in the “Best of 3” final series for the Austrian handball title between the people of the capital and HC Linz AG had to be postponed to Sunday (June 4, 7:05 p.m., live in ORF Sport Plus) will be postponed.
West Wien won the decisive semi-final against city rivals Fivers Margareten on Monday 35:30. The Viennese farewell tour is thus being extended, as the club is leaving after this season for lack of an affordable home base.
“As tragic as her exit is for local handball, we want to be the party crashers at her farewell party,” said Linz manager Uwe Schneider.
The Upper Austrians, for whom it would be their first title since 1996, have signed three players from West Wien for the coming season: goalkeeper Florian Kaiper, Nicolas Paulnsteiner and Elias Derdak. The second final game will take place in Linz on June 7th, with a potential decider away on June 11th.
