When the record winners of FC Sevilla celebrated with the silver Europa League trophy, Jose Mourinho had already disappeared towards the dressing room. The Portuguese didn’t want the medal he received as a finalist. Instead, Roma’s coach threw them to a young fan in the stands. After AS Roma’s 4-1 draw in Budapest’s penalty shootout, Mourinho left his future in Rome open.

He was “tired,” Mourinho said after losing his first European Cup final as a coach. “I’ve won five finals, but I’ve never been prouder than today,” said the 60-year-old, praising his players. Mourinho is under contract in Rome until the summer of 2024. In recent weeks, he has been linked with a commitment to Paris Saint-Germain or his ex-club Chelsea. He had “not had any contact with anyone since December, when he was supposed to take over Portugal’s national team,” Mourinho said in Budapest.
