EASTER RENTAL THING. “You couldn’t have expected that things would go so well,” said Ostermiething coach Christoph Mühllechner, who can’t quite believe his team’s current run of success. The 4-1 away win at SPG FC Wels/WSC Hertha 1b was the fifth win in the sixth game – the Innviertel team leads the Upper Austrian League table.
While a total of 25 points were scored in the previous season, there are now 15 points after the first fifth of the season. “Defensively we don’t allow much and offensively we are always good for a goal,” says the 34-year-old coach, who took over from Ostermiething in the summer, describing the secret of their success.
One player in particular stands out: offensive player Julien-Lee Richter. The 24-year-old German has already scored nine goals this season and also scored in the most recent success in the trade fair city. Richter is a (border) brilliant kicker in the truest sense of the word: the German-born player is the only player who has to travel across the German border to every training or game for his club from Braunau.
Sandro Wagner is still a defender
The striker, who has already played ten games for Unterhaching in the third German league and has already played a total of 105 games in the Bavarian Regional League (Wacker Burghausen, Rosenheim and Unterhaching), feels noticeably comfortable in neighboring countries. A prominent man apparently did not recognize his instinct for goal in the past: in 2021, Sandro Wagner – now interim team boss of the German national team together with Rudi Völler – was his coach at Unterhaching – the eight-time German team player and three-time champion with Bayern, but at that time Richter was mainly in charge the position of the full-back. Mühllechner: “In the previous season, Julien played mainly on the side at Ostermiething, but I’m putting him up front. He brings a lot to the table, but can do even more.”
