The Argentine women’s volleyball team lost today to Brazil by 3-0 at the start of the Olympic Qualifiers in Tokyo, Japan, which distributes two places for Paris 2024 among eight teams.

The Panthers, ranked 19th in the world ranking, went from low to high against the Brazilians (fourth and South American champions) but fell with scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-22.

San Juan center back Candelaria Herrera had an outstanding performance and was the top Argentine scorer with 15 points. The scorer of the match was Brazil’s opposite number, Kisy Nascimiento, with 16.

Coach Daniel Castellani started Victoria Mayer, Bianca Cugno (3 points), Yamila Nizetich (2), Daniela Bulaich (10), Candelaria Herrera (15), Bianca Farriol (5). The liberos were Agostina Pelozo and Tatiana Rizzo. Tatiana Vera, Erika Mercado, Candela Salinas (4), Eugenia Nosach (2) and Brenda Graff also entered.

This Sunday, at 7:25, Las Panteras will face local Japan in the second match of the tournament, in which Belgium, Turkey, Puerto Rico, Bulgaria and Peru also participate. All matches will be broadcast on ESPN and Star Plus.
