No more England? Callum Hudson-Odoi apparently wants to play for Ghana

Chelsea’s winger Callum Hudson-Odoi apparently wants to play for the Ghana national team in the future and no longer for England.

Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea is apparently planning to no longer play for England, but for Ghana in the future. According to Ghana Sports Online Hudson-Odoi has already made the decision to play for Ghana in the future. After he had thought about this step for a long time, the racist hostility against the three black English internationals Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka after their penalty misses in the European Championship final against Italy are said to have been decisive.

According to the report, Hudson-Odoi fears that he will face similar hostility should he find himself in such a situation for England.

Hudson has played in England’s youth national teams since the U16 and has already played for the senior team three times.

However, due to a new FIFA rule, he is still able to move, as he made his debut at the age of 18 in the European Championship qualification in March 2019 and thus before his 21st birthday. In addition, he did not play in a major final tournament, which is also a criterion of the new rules.

Callum Hudson-Odoi: Ghana-Debüt bei WM 2022?

However: Since he has already played for England’s senior team, Hudson-Odoi now has a three-year deadline for his last appearance before the change can be made official. His last game for England was a 4-0 win against Kosovo in November 2019. For Ghana, he won’t be able to play until November 2022 – but on time for the World Cup in Qatar.

Hudson-Odoi had already commented on his decision for England and against Ghana back in June: “I had to choose between Ghana and England, but I always had the right people around to advise me,” he told Joy Sports . At the time, however, he already left the possibility of a change of nationality open: “Ghana is also my home, so we’ll see. Let’s wait, you can’t predict it.”
