Cross-country skier Victoria Carl shows her great potential at the World Cup in Sweden. She achieves something that she has never managed before. Norway dominates among men.
Cross-country skier Victoria Carl celebrated the greatest World Cup success of her career to date in Östersund, Sweden. The 28-year-old from Zella-Mehlis ran third in the ten-kilometer race using the free technique.
For Carl it was her first podium finish in an individual World Cup, which she celebrated with cheers and jumps on the podium. In 27:34.7 minutes she was only beaten by the winner Jessie Diggins from the USA and the second-placed Norwegian Heidi Weng. At the 2022 Winter Olympics, Carl sensationally won the gold medal in the team sprint with Katharina Hennig.
The Norwegian cross-country skiers dominated the men’s event. Harald Oestberg Amundsen won ahead of his compatriots Simen Hegstad Krüger and Didrik Toenseth. Norwegians also took fourth, fifth, seventh and ninth place. Friedrich Moch was the best German in eighth place. For the 23-year-old, it was the best individual result of the World Cup season so far.
The day before, a Norwegian in Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo had also won the sprint competition. The German cross-country skiers were eliminated early on. The women were also unable to intervene in the fight for the podium places on the day before Carl’s big appearance.
