Jonas Reckermann won gold in beach volleyball at the 2012 Olympic Games. A few months later his career came to an end. Here he looks back on his great successes and talks about new tasks.
Interview: Sabine Hoffmann
Today you are a high school teacher at an elite sports school Leverkusen. Do you occasionally play volleyball with your students?
Nope. I teach physical education and geography and am an athletic trainer. Of course, I step in if a team isn’t complete. But it’s not like I’m playing alone against my class.
Your students have probably googled you. What came of it?
If you search for videos, you quickly end up with old programs from Stefan Raab’s “TV Total Turmsprung”. I took part there several times and won twice. So, funnily enough, it happened that students asked me whether I used to be a high diver.
