Bundesliga: Rummenigge: Kompany signing depends only on details

Vincent Kompany as the new coach of Bayern: The deal is as good as done. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has now confirmed this.

The appointment of Vincent Kompany as the new coach of the German football record champions Bayern Munich is now down to a few details. Former CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed this to Sky and also revealed the help of former Bayern coach Pep Guardiola.

“Our board has decided to appoint Vincent Kompany as the new head coach. We are in the process of finalising the details and then it will be official,” said the 68-year-old. “Pep Guardiola also helped us with Kompany, he spoke very highly of Vincent as a talented coach. Pep knows Vincent very well and his opinion is valued.”

According to reports, Kompany’s signing will be announced on Wednesday. The former Manchester City and Hamburger SV professional is to receive a contract with the German record champions until 2027. The Munich team had already agreed on a transfer fee with Kompany’s current club, Burnley FC. This is said to be between ten and twelve million euros.

Many coaches canceled

Kompany had led Burnley back to the Premier League a year ago, winning the second-tier Championship with ease. However, the club was relegated again in the season just ended.

For Bayern, signing the former Belgian international would bring to an end a long search that the public was able to follow in detail. After the announced separation from Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season, Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, national coach Julian Nagelsmann and Austrian national coach Ralf Rangnick all declined. A signing of former Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner also did not materialize. Roger Schmidt from Benfica Lisbon also declined, and recent efforts to keep Tuchel on have also failed.
