Neureuther ennobles Shiffrin: “There will never be anyone again”

For Felix Neureuther, ski star Mikaela Shiffrin is unique. The American is on the verge of her 100th World Cup triumph. The German ex-driver tells us what he still believes she can do.

Ski racer Mikaela Shiffrin is on the verge of her 100th victory in the World Cup and could break a barrier of success that was long considered unattainable. “You can’t think of anything anymore, it’s unbelievable. She is by far the greatest of all time,” said former Alpine star and TV expert Felix Neureuther about the American, who currently has 99 victories. Shiffrin’s home events are scheduled for the weekend in Killington in the USA with a giant slalom on Saturday and a slalom on Sunday.

“What fascinates me about her is that she was so good at a young age and yet she continues to motivate and reinvent herself. She could have said long ago: I’ve won everything and I’m quitting. But she keeps improving.” , explained Neureuther in an interview with the German Press Agency.

Neureuther believes Shiffrin can do “everything”.

Since her first World Cup victory at the end of 2012 at the age of 17 and the gold medals at the World Cup in Schladming shortly afterwards and at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Shiffrin has been world class and is now the record winner ahead of the Swede Ingemar Stenmark (86 victories).

“There are no limits for her,” emphasized Neureuther, considering that Shiffrin is only 29 years old. “I trust her with everything. I never thought that someone would be able to celebrate 100 victories in the World Cup. And she will remain the only one – I can’t imagine, with the best will in the world, that there will ever be someone like that again.”

Shiffrin’s success factors

And what is Shiffrin’s recipe for success? “She’s so consistent and almost never drops out, that’s amazing and enormous. She’s strong in her head, the training is great and she’s just so much better than everyone else. She often only runs at 80 percent and still wins.” said Neureuther. “Plus, she was never actually seriously injured, which is incredible and shows the physical condition the woman is in.”
