Cruciate ligament tear: Season ended for ski star Hirscher
Ski racer Marcel Hirscher is seriously injured during training. The winter is over for the returnee – possibly even his career.
Ski star Marcel Hirscher was seriously injured during training and will be out for the rest of the season. This may also mean the end of the 35-year-old’s career. “What remains is the love of skiing,” wrote Hirscher on Instagram. He also posted a video that shows him on a training ride at the Reiteralm in Austria. The eight-time overall World Cup winner suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his left knee on Monday. The veteran slipped briefly at one point without falling. A scream of pain can be heard in the video.
Hirscher returned to the Alpine World Cup at the beginning of this season after a break of more than five years. In his comeback in the giant slalom in Sölden he scored straight into the points, but in the subsequent slaloms in Levi and Gurgl he came away empty-handed. Since this winter, the two-time Olympic champion and seven-time world champion no longer competed for Austria, but rather for the Netherlands, his mother’s home country.
