Violent wind ensures a combiner cancellation at World Cup
The Nordic combination team competition is canceled at short notice. Too strong wind does not allow jumping from the ski jump. It is planned for Friday.
The stormy weather in Trondheim has ensured a cancellation of the World Cup competition in the Nordic combination. The World Association FIS announced this in Norway and determined Friday as a catch -up day. Violent winds have been turbulence in the city and around the granases ski scanent since early morning. The ski jumping, which was already planned later and planned for 12.30 p.m., was moved three times by around 15 minutes and then canceled completely.
TV presence important for FIS
“It is not exactly easy. The conditions change very quickly. This does not make it possible to have a safe competition takes place,” said national coach Eric Frenzel in his first reaction.
The FIS announced the new schedule for Friday for an hour and a half. The combiners are on the ski jump at 12 noon and later at 3:30 p.m. in the trail. Women’s cross-country skiing relay is brought forward to 1:15 p.m., the jumping of women increases at 4.30 p.m.
The men’s cross-country skiing relay was postponed to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. This should ensure that all spectators are in their place in good time.
It is important for the FIS that the World Cup race receives a corresponding TV presence. The team competition of ski jumpers is also planned at the Nordic Ski World Cup on Thursday.
So far permanent rain instead of gusts
The strong gusts also caused some challenges organizationally. Because the cross-country stadium had been closed for a long time, extremely long snakes formed on the way to the competition. Banners were left behind for safety’s sake.
In the past few days, the wind in Trondheim has not been the problem. The competitions took place without any problems despite days of constant rain. Germany is considered a clear medal candidate in the team competition.
