Gilgeous-Alexander elected for the first time to be MVP of the NBA
Shai Gilgeous -Alexander or Nikola Jokic – one of the two would win the MVP this season, all experts agreed. In the end it wasn’t even scarce.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander from the Oklahoma City Thunder has been voted the most valuable player in the NBA for the first time in his career. The team-mate of Isaiah Hartenstein clearly prevailed against Nikola Jokic from the Denver Nuggets in the journalist election. Third place went to Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks. “As a child, when you dream of basketball, that’s always in mind,” said Gilgeous-Alexander after the election to the MVP of the best basketball league in the world.
Gilgeous -Alexander is currently in the Western Conference finals with the Oklahoma City Thunder – the Jokic team and the Nuggets had eliminated in the previous round. In the main round, the 26 -year -old Canadian came to 32.7 points per game and an average of 5.0 rebounds, 6.4 templates and 1.72 steals. In his seventh year in the NBA, he was also the top scorer of the league. Only in a game of this season did he post less than 20 points in one game.
Gilgeous-Alexander received 913 points in the vote. Jokic combined 787 points. Antetocounmpo got 470 points. Gilgeous-Alexander is the second Canadian to Steve Nash, who was able to win the MVP election. He also extended the series to seven years in which the NBA MVP was not born in the United States.
