Formula 1 training: Norris and Verstappen with identical time-Piatri Top

WM leader Oscar Piatri has attuned to the Formula 1 qualification at the Grand Prix of Spain with the best time of the day in the McLaren. After the two one-hour training sessions on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, it was not yet clear whether the traditional British team had lost due to the tightened front wing rules and controls.

In the first free training, teammates and Monaco winner Lando Norris took first place. Piatri had not got past position five with over half a second behind. In the second session in the late afternoon under a bright blue sky and at 30 degrees air temperature, Norris lined up fourth. His gap to Piatri: 0.310 seconds.

With this he was just as fast except for the millennial second as the four -time world champion Verstappen in the Red Bull. George Russell was second in the Mercedes (+0,286). Nico Hülkenberg became twelfth.

Is McLaren braked?

At the ninth Grand Prix of the season, a technical directive, which had been decided months ago, became effective. It is about the flexibility of the front wing, which is further restricted and measured using new strict methods. Some pursuers should hope that the McLaren could slow down. Piatri and Norris won six of the previous eight races.

The measure also influences the balance of the car and thus the tire wear, which can be decisive about the race distance – especially at high summer temperatures – on Sunday (3:00 p.m./Sky and RTL).

In the classification, Piatri leads with a three -point lead over Norris, who won the classic in Monaco for the first time last Sunday. Verstappen is third, the defending champion is 25 points behind Piatri.
