MTS promised the FAS to justify the increase in prices for tariffs

MTS will provide the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) with all the necessary clarifications on the increase in the cost of cellular services. This is stated in the message of the mobile operator, which was received by the editors of Izvestia on Tuesday, February 21.

Earlier on the same day, the FAS reported that they had opened a case against MTS due to unreasonable increase in the cost of services. It was indicated that in January MTS increased prices for cellular services for more than 28 million subscribers by an average of 9.5%, justifying this by increasing its costs. However, the operator did not provide evidence of an increase in costs in an amount sufficient to justify an increase in tariffs to the antimonopolists.

At the same time, MTS told Izvestia that they were informed about the changes “in advance and in the most detailed format” so that subscribers could choose whether to remain at the current tariff or switch to another tariff or subscription.

The company noted that Russian operators have to adjust tariffs due to rising inflation and the cost of equipment, as well as in connection with its delivery, increased electricity costs, the need to invest in the expansion and construction of new networks.

“Even taking into account the changes, communication services and mobile Internet in Russia remain cheap and accessible to everyone,” the company emphasized.

In January, MTS representative Alexei Merkutov told Izvestia that the company would change about 25% of all mass tariffs. He pointed out that at the beginning of January, the operator had notified subscribers in advance about the increase in tariff prices by 60 rubles, while maintaining the current set of services.
