Foreign companies Meta (owns Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) and Zoom have begun to comply with the Russian “landing” law by registering personal accounts on the Roskomnadzor website. The department announced this on Tuesday, February 22.

“Foreign companies Meta Platforms, Inc. and Zoom Video Communications, Inc. started to fulfill the requirements established by Federal Law No. 236-FZ. Meta Platforms Inc. sent an application for registration of a personal account on the official website of Roskomnadzor. Zoom Video Communications, Inc. registered a personal account on the official website of Roskomnadzor, ”the statement says.

Earlier, on February 16, the deputy head of Roskomnadzor, Vadim Subbotin, noted the readiness of the department by the end of February to take measures against foreign companies that have not yet begun to comply with the law on “landing”.

At the same time, he added that Viber sent documents on the establishment of a representative office in the Russian Federation within the framework of the law.

The law “On the activities of foreign persons on the Internet in Russia” was adopted last summer and entered into force on January 1. According to the document, foreign firms are required to open their branches, representative offices or any other legal entity in the Russian Federation if more than 500 thousand people visit their sites per day.

Companies that refuse to comply with all requirements may, among other things, be prohibited from distributing advertising about the site or on it, receive payments, partially or completely restrict access to the resource.

The list includes 13 foreign companies: these are social networks Meta, Twitter, TikTok, Likee, Pinterest, instant messengers WhatsApp, Viber, Telegram, Discord, video conferencing and broadcast services Zoom, Twitch, Apple and Google services, including YouTube, as well as streaming audio service Spotify .
