ADAC test All-season tires: Four top models and many failures

Security deficits for cheap tires: ADAC test reveals weaknesses. Only four all -season tires achieve “good”, with Goodyear as the leader also in terms of mileage.
All -season tires are becoming increasingly popular. You save the annual tire change, a second tire set and the question of where with the removed set. In addition, there are rarely really winter conditions in Germany for six months.
The new ADAC test again proves that not all tires are good. Cheap tires in particular can have considerable security deficits. The popular size 225/45 R17 was tested, typical of the lower middle class. In the case of the criteria, safety is in the foreground, i.e. driving and braking properties on dry, wet, ice and snow-covered road. In addition, longevity, fuel consumption, volume and sustainability are checked.
Well-known brands lead in the ADAC test
The market prices are listed, but do not flow into the evaluation. The cheapest tire costs 72 euros each, the most expensive almost twice. In the previous year, only one tire received the overall grade “good”. This year there are at least four models. The goody vector 4Seasons Gen-3 and the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 share the top spot, both with a grade of 2.3. The Continental is at the front of the driving safety values, while the Goodyear reaches the highest mileage of 68,000 kilometers by far. The Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF 3 and the Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6 are also “good”, both with a grade of 2.5.
Four models cut off with “satisfactory”. However, buying is hardly worth it, since they are not significantly cheaper than the top group. The Michelin CrossClimate 2 (grade 2.7) is even the most expensive model at 145 euros.
The remaining eight all -season tires are not recommended because they fail with at least one weather conditions. The Arivo Carlorful A/S and the Petlas Multi Action PT565, both with a grade of 5.5 are the deterrent examples. They show so bad performance in at least one category that the ADAC classifies them as a security risk.
In order to illustrate the differences, the ADAC gives an example: when braking on wet roads from 80 km/h to the standstill, a vehicle with the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 needs about 31 meters. At the time, a car with the Arivo Carlorful has 41 km/h on the speedometer.
Cheaper than specified
If you want to save, you are best served with the test winner Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3. With almost 68,000 kilometers of mileage, it lasts significantly longer than most other test participants, many of whom do not even reach 50,000 kilometers. An example: The Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 comes at 67,900 km at costs of 135 euros. The brand tire Bfgoodrich Advantage All-Season costs almost as much at 129 euros, but only reaches 41,790 km.
However, the prices are irritating. All tires can be ordered significantly cheaper. The goodyear vector 4Seasons Gen-3 mentioned is available in size for around 90 euros instead of the specified 135 euros-plus assembly costs. The situation is similar with the second test winner, the Continental AllSeasonContact
