In Moscow, since the beginning of 2022, the Moscow traffic police have detained 3,120 drivers with signs of intoxication. This was announced on February 18 by the official Telegram channel of the Moscow State traffic inspectorate.
It is noted that out of the total number of detainees, the fact of intoxication was established in 1474 drivers. Another 1,646 motorists refused to undergo a medical examination.
In addition, another 167 drivers face criminal liability for repeat offenses related to driving while intoxicated.
“Just imagine how many potentially saved lives that is. Alcohol and steering wheel are incompatible, driving while intoxicated, you can take the life of others. Is it worth it? No, it’s not worth it, ”the traffic police noted.
For driving while intoxicated, the violator faces a fine of 30 thousand rubles and deprivation of the right to drive for up to two years. In the case of a repeated offense, having already been deprived of the right to drive vehicles, the offender faces criminal liability up to imprisonment for up to two years, and if there is a conviction for such a violation, up to three years in prison.
On January 24, Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Road Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Police Major General Vladimir Kuzin, said that a traffic police officer has the right to check the technical inspection of a car even upon presentation of a diagnostic card, if car malfunctions are visible.
Kuzin recalled that, according to the new law, vehicles owned by individuals do not need to go through the technical inspection procedure. The exception is those cases when changes were made to the design of the vehicle or the car was produced more than four years ago.
