Where does it crash particularly often? At what point were there fatal accidents? The accident atlas 2024 shows the distribution of traffic accidents in Germany – to the address.
Germany is still a long way from the “Vision Zero”, so no longer a traffic dead. Last year, 2770 people were killed in traffic accidents on the German roads, a slight decline of 69 compared to the previous year – but still on average almost eight people a day. There were 365,000 injuries. The Federal Statistical Office announced the current figures this week.
According to this, the police recorded a total of around 2.51 million traffic accidents in 2024, and most of them remained in property damage. Excessive or non -adapted speed were the most common cause of fatal traffic accidents.

The meticulous recording of traffic accidents in Germany is intended to help to take consequences and thus further reduce the number of traffic victims. For example, the number of accident deaths dropped to country roads, after the limitation of the top speed, after introducing the belt obligation or after reducing the alcohol boundaries.
The places where there is a crash-in order to draw conclusions from the crashes: there is no tempo 30 zones somewhere? Is an intersection confusing? Should an overtaking ban apply? Or does the police have to check more often?

On the interactive card you can see whether there is a focus of the accident on your front door or whether your children have to walk along the way to school in particularly dangerous places. Last but not least, the data can be an argumentation for the authorities when it comes to the construction of a traffic light, the establishment of a Tempo 30 zone or more speed controls, for example.
