The Uruguay Automotive Trade Association (Acau) reported that 6,079 were sold vehicles New during July, which represents an increase of 18.13% compared to last month and a 20% increase in interannual terms.

After a second trimester marked by some weakness in the market, Julio’s figures gave the automotive sector a respite. The rebound was mainly explained by strong growth in car sales and SUV. In detail, they were marketed 2,170 cars (compared to 1,669 in June) and 2,001 SUV (against 1,545 the previous month). To a lesser extent, sales of utility (1,685 units) and minibuses (19 units) also grew, while trucks and buses recorded a slight retraction.

Although there is still no data disaggregated by brand or model, the general increase suggests a reactivation in demand, partly explained by an improvement in the conditions of financingcommercial promotions and some stabilization of the exchange rate.

This rebound occurs after a semester where sales remained stagnant or with slight setbacks, so the July data marks a possible turning point in the behavior of the car market.

The first semester numbers

In the accumulated of the first semester of 2025, the automotive market reflects an year -on -year recovery of 8%, with more than 32,000 zero -kilometer vehicles sold, according to reports from the Acau. The segment with greater dynamism was that of SUV, which grew an amazing 44%, in contrast to the 4% fall in traditional passenger cars.

This scenario provides context to the positive figure of July, which reached 6,079 unitsreflecting not only a rebound against June, but also a support of the growth held during the year.

This rebound is also aligned with a more stable economic environment, where inflation It has been contained and interest rates began to give up slightly, favoring access to automotive credit. In addition, there is greater dynamism in the commercialization of utilitarian vehicles, driven by the growth of electronic commerce and urban logistics, as well as a growing demand for renewed fleets by companies.
