The Ministry of Internal Affairs has developed a draft law on compulsory inspection of faulty cars

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has developed a draft law, according to which traffic police officers will have the right to send cars with serious technical malfunctions for compulsory extraordinary technical inspection. This was reported on February 24 by Autonews.

The mechanism with a prohibition of operation is supposed to be used if the detected malfunctions can significantly affect road safety. In particular, we are talking about malfunctions of the brake system, steering, mechanisms for fixing the sides of trucks, direction indicators.

The traffic police inspector, having identified a faulty car, is obliged to enter information about this car into the database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, indicating all the malfunctions, within 24 hours. In this case, the operation of the diagnostic card will be suspended.

Before traveling for an extraordinary inspection, the motorist will first have to visit a service station (SRT) to troubleshoot. At the same time, according to the bill, the motorist will have to eliminate the malfunctions within seven days and visit the inspection point to issue a new diagnostic card.

If the car appears on the road after seven days from the date of prohibition of its operation, then the registration certificate will be taken away.

On December 30, 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law on the abolition of mandatory technical inspection for personal cars of individuals.

The law abolishes the mandatory technical inspection for cars and motorcycles that belong to individuals and are used by them for personal purposes. The provisions of the law do not apply to taxis and other vehicles used to transport passengers, as well as to personal vehicles used for business purposes.

The obligation to undergo technical inspection remains with respect to such vehicles if more than four years have passed since the year of their manufacture, but only in cases where the vehicle must be registered with the state, registered in connection with a change in ownership or a change in design and replacement of the main component of the vehicle, noted 24 December in the press service of the Federation Council.

On February 3, it was reported that the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia sent a draft resolution to the government on simplifying the rules for vehicle inspection.

So, checks for leaks in the engine, gearbox, air conditioner, as well as the presence of a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher and an emergency stop sign will be removed from the list of mandatory procedures.
