Baden-Württemberg now allows the use of scan cars for park controls, Heidelberg starts with a test vehicle. Parking offices can (still) breathe a sigh of relief.
Heidelberg As one of the first municipalities nationwide, relies on a scan car in the fight against parking offices. According to the city administration, the new vehicle is to be used in two districts of the 150,000-inhabitant city in Baden-Württemberg from September 18.
According to the Ministry of Transport in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg is the first state to have a legal basis for the use of the Vehicles created.
Cameras record parked cars in Heidelberg
The vehicles have installed cameras on the roof, with which you can drive past the number plates of parked Cars can record. The license plates are then compared with a database. However, controls with the scan car only work where the parking permissions are recorded digitally, according to the ministry. In other countries such as the Netherlands, technology has been used for many years.
In normal parking spaces, parking ticket machines are required, where users have to enter the license plate of their car when solving a parking ticket. Residents parking cards or special permits must also be recorded digitally. First of all, it is about a test operation, for the time being, parking sinners will not receive nodules.
As part of a pilot project, Heidelberg is now the first municipality in the southwest in which such a car is used. So far, a scan car has already been used in the parking lot of the University of Hohenheim Stuttgart tested. Mannheim will use the scan cars as the next city.
“Children and the elderly are safer”
According to the ministry, the aim of the project is to make traffic monitoring more efficient – and the streets safer. “The scan cars allow much better and closer control,” said Minister Winfried Hermann (Greens). “This means that children, the elderly and people with restrictions on movement are safer in our cities.”
A scan car can check up to 1000 vehicles in an hour. An employee of the municipal security service only creates about 50 vehicles on foot in the same time.
